Baldur’s Gate 3‘s developer, Larian Studios, has now disclosed how players have chosen to proceed through the Dungeons & Dragons video game, one year after its launch.

The studio posted a long X/Twitter conversation with a plethora of statistics. It contains intriguing information about the soul-crushing permadeath Honour Mode in Baldur’s Gate 3 and the characters that people prefer above others. Still, it also shows that 1.9 million gamers were at some point transformed into cheese wheels.

An additional significant update to the statistics shows that although Scratch, everyone’s favorite dog was petted 120 million times, only 41 million and 141,660 efforts were made to pet The Owlbear Cub and His Majesty the Cat, respectively. The fact that we now know exactly how each player approached the romance options in the game is what matters.

Larian features a good assortment of romantic figures in her blogs. Over 75 million kisses have been given to the companions of Baldur’s Gate 3, with Shadowheart topping the list with an astounding 27 million kisses. Asterion comes in second place with 15 million smooches, while Minthara comes in last with 169,937. We also take a look at some statistics on Larian’s notorious Druid, Halsin. Thirty percent of the 658,000 players slept with Halsin in his grizzly bear shape while the remaining seventy percent decided to do it in his human form.

using 1.21 million characters initially created using him, Asterion turned out to be the most-played character in the entirety of Baldur’s Gate 3. That is a lot of High Elf Rogues out there, but 93% of players did decide to start an adventure with a bespoke character, according to Larian. While 141,660 players succeeded in finishing Honor Mode, an astounding 1,223,305 playthroughs resulted in a defeat.

About some of the more significant plot points that can be reached in Baldur’s Gate 3, 3.3 million players were able to slay the Netherbrain, and an additional 1.8 million decided to turn on the mind-flayer emperor. Remarkably, only 34 players who selected Lae’zel as their Origin character after the game also decided to end their own lives.

A major factor in why players fell in love with Baldur’s Gate 3 last summer was the game’s seemingly endless possibilities. Larian has been releasing new content via post-launch updates despite having much to offer at launch. Many people have speculated that Alfira would be included as a new companion when Patch 7 eventually launches.

Read our 10/10 review and enjoy the huge realm that is Baldur’s Gate 3 until Larian expands upon it. “Baldur’s Gate 3 is the new high-water mark for CRPGs,” we declared at the game’s July 2023 launch.
