Helldivers 2, a smash-hit cooperative shooter, appears ready for a crossover, but which properties might it collaborate with? Since the game’s blockbuster launch earlier this year, users have been having fun conversations about it. The creative director of Helldivers 2 has now voiced his opinions and revealed many intellectual properties that he would love to collaborate with.

Johan Pilestedt, the creative director of Helldivers 2 and CCO of Arrowhead, warned against making too many crossovers in a tweet, stating that doing so “would dilute the IP and make it a ‘not Helldivers’ experience.” But he also released a long list of IPs that he “would want to make a take on!”

  • Dropzone Commander
  • Star Wars
  • Starship Troopers
  • Predator
  • Aliens
  • Terminator
  • Blade Runner
  • Mutant Chronicles
  • Trench Crusade
  • Fifth Element
  • Warhammer 40k

It is obvious how many of these franchises would fit in with Helldivers 2. Since Helldivers 2 prominently references the cult classic sci-fi film Starship Troopers, it is the logical pick. Given that the Automaton alien opponent is essentially a Terminator, Terminator also looks like a natural fit. Though I enjoy thinking about Star Wars, Predator, and Aliens, my favorite is Warhammer 40,000.

With lore-accurate weaponry, vehicles, and speech, it would be incredible to drop down as an Imperial Guard soldier into a planet overrun by Tyranids or Necrons. Yes, the fantastic and wildly popular Space Marine 2 is currently available to Warhammer 40,000 aficionados, but that is a Space Marine game. Helldivers 2 is already very close to being an Imperial Guard game. Without a doubt, I would spend a lot of money on an Imperial Guard crossover.

This leads us to our next query: if crossovers were ever a possibility in Helldivers 2, how might it be handled? In a later tweet, Pilestedt hinted that it might be in the form of specific super shop items or possibly a Warbond, Helldivers 2’s version of a battle pass.

“It would also be awesome to have a whole Starship Troopers Warbond with movable infantry armor, voices, and weaponry!” Before emphasizing, Pilestedt stated: “Nothing determined yet. Just some thoughts 🙂

Is it possible for Arrowhead to make a crossover deal? Helldivers 2 has undoubtedly performed well enough to attract some major players. Remember that Helldivers 2 sold an astounding 12 million copies in just 12 weeks, making it the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game ever. Even if there are not as many players as there used to be on Steam, the player base is still very strong.

However, crossover fantasies are still just that—dreams—for the time being. The danger of a new alien faction hovering over the cosmic horizon prompts Arrowhead to continue updating Helldivers 2 with new Warbonds and updates shortly.
