Fourteen years after its initial release, Red Dead Redemption will finally have a PC release date.

On October 29, 2024, Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare made their PC debut – a full 14 years after Rockstar’s Wild West epic debuted on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010.

Red Dead Redemption and its renowned zombie-horror companion tale, Undead Nightmare, will be available for PC on October 29. This will allow players to experience John Marston’s cherished journey in breathtaking, new detail for the first time in its illustrious legacy, according to Rockstar.

Red Dead Redemption’s PC port, created by Double Eleven (who also worked on the 2023 PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions), adds PC-specific features like native 4K resolution at up to 144 Hz on compatible hardware, support for both Ultrawide (21:9) and Super Ultrawide (32:9) monitors, HDR10 compatibility, and full keyboard and mouse functionality.

Additionally, Rockstar noted that Nvidia DLSS Frame Generation, configurable draw distances, shadow quality options, and AMD FSR 3.0 and Nvidia DLSS 3.7 upscaling technologies are supported.

Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Rockstar Store will all be hosting the PC launches of Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare. The cost has not yet been disclosed.

Features of Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare for PC:

  • On compatible hardware, native 4K resolution and higher at up to 144 Hz
  • Super Ultrawide (32:9) and Ultrawide (21:9) monitor support
  • complete support for keyboard and mouse
  • Support for AMD FSR 3.0 and Nvidia DLSS 3.7
  • Upscaling technology Nvidia DLSS Frame Generation
  • Changeable shadow quality settings, draw distances, and other features

Given that Sony recently published information on Red Dead Redemption via the PlayStation Store and that a data mine of publisher Rockstar Games’ website in May 2024 also referenced a PC port, confirmation of the game’s PC port is hardly surprising.

Grand Theft Auto 5 was not even released on the PC with consoles, but rather a year later, by Rockstar, a company that has historically disregarded PC gamers. The same is true for Grand Theft Auto 6, which, despite the lack of a PC version, is set to be the biggest video game launch ever.

With the official confirmation of Red Dead Redemption for the PC, players are wondering if Rockstar intends to update both the original game and its sequel for other platforms. For instance, would Red Dead Redemption 2 get a PS5 Pro Enhanced upgrade that might include a 4K resolution setting and 60 frames per second?
