Patch Notes for Path of Exile 2 Explain Endgame and Monster Modifications as Early Access Continues

The full patch notes for the upcoming Path of Exile 2 version 0.1.1, which brings several endgame, skill, and monster improvements to the early-access dungeon crawler, have been released by Grinding Gear Games.

The most recent update’s complete contents show a vast number of changes that, if all goes as planned, will be put into effect tomorrow, January 17. This is another feature of the game that is still in development, and Grinding Gear is working to make the experience better to meet the expectations of both fans and the game itself.

To make Path of Exile 2 more rewarding for more experienced players, endgame maps have included additional monsters, chests, Essence, Strongboxes, and Precursor Artifacts. Alpine Ridge, Bluff, Mesa, and Sinking Spire are the four new Tower Map regions that endgame players can now access. Monster balances promise higher toughness per essence modifier and a decrease for the Lost-men Zealot’s Meteor range, while skill modifications include adjustments to things like Supercharged Slam, Scavenged Plating, and more. Naturally, today’s list also includes a plethora of bug and quality-of-life enhancements.

Patch 0.1.1 for Path of Exile 2 is just the start of many upgrades that will be released in 2025. Fixes for problems are mentioned in the patch notes. It “did not quite get ready in time for this patch,” according to Grinding Gear. For instance, fixing Una’s Song is taking longer than the team had expected, and Map Stash Tabs will be available soon. These issues will be resolved “as soon as they are ready,” according to Grinding Gear.

In a recent video reviewing everything in 0.1.1, game director Jonathan Rogers emphasized that “it is important highlighting that just because a certain issue is not on this list, it does not mean that we are not aware of it or that it is not going to get handled.” “It simply indicates that we are either unable to address the issue promptly or that doing so will require a new economy.”

On December 6, 2024, Path of Exile 2 was eventually published on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, ending the lengthy wait for the early access launch. It was so popular that it became the 15th most-played game on Steam ever. Despite its promising beginning, the developers outlined a plan to modify loot drops last month, acknowledging that more might be done to make the game feel worthwhile. The complete patch notes for everything included in update 0.1.1 are available below.

0.1.1 Patch Notes

In addition to numerous monster modifications, special adjustments, enhancements, and bug repairs, this version includes new endgame tower maps, checkpoints for map regions, and respawn attempts for the Arbiter of Ash.

Endgame Changes

  • Alpine Ridge, Bluff, Mesa, and Sinking Spire are the four new places added to the Tower Map.
  • Additionally, the Lost Towers Map area has been updated.
  • You will now have up to six respawn tries in the Arbiter of Ash Boss fight, which will solve the issue of only having one attempt. Only the individual who entered the keys can initiate respawns, and all members of your party will respawn simultaneously. You must still use the build you entered the map with to battle the boss because leaving the map still results in your attempt being lost. The harder the boss is, the fewer respawn attempts you will get. Over time, we plan to incorporate respawn attempts into further Pinnacle content.
  • Citadels are now more visible on the Endgame Map.
  • In the Atlas UI, maps now show their Biome when you hover over them.
  • The new Overseer’s Precursor Tablet has been added. It is a monetary item that can be used to add Map Bosses to valid maps within a radius by placing it in completed towers. These tablets can roll exclusive modifiers that have an impact on Map Bosses and drop from them.
  • For the stuff they carry, map areas have been modified to have more distinct specializations. One map area may have more monsters overall, for instance, but another is more likely to feature extra items like Strongboxes, Essences, or Shrines. In general, a map will specialize in more axes the smaller it is or the harder it is to clear. An outline of the modifications we made to make Maps more readable is provided below:
  • Many maps now produce twice as many chests, including at least twice as many Magic or Rare chests.
  • There are now up to twice as many monsters on certain maps.
  • Map regions have been altered to have a more pronounced specialty for the items they transport. For example, a map region may contain more monsters overall, whereas another may have more items such as Shrines, Essences, or Strongboxes. Generally speaking, a map that is smaller or more difficult to conquer will specialize in more axes. Below is a summary of the changes we made to make Maps easier to read:
  • At least twice as many Magic or Rare chests are now produced on many maps, and many maps now provide twice as many chests overall.
  • On some maps, the number of monsters has increased by up to double.
