Dead by Daylight’s most popular mode was about to expire today, but developer Behaviour Interactive has announced that it would be extending the 2v8 mode’s trial term by two weeks.

We have been astounded by your response to 2v8 over the last two weeks, and we have clearly heard your requests for the mode to be kept longer than expected. We are pleased to announce that the inaugural run of 2v8 will now continue until next week on August 15 at 11 a.m. ET. https://twitter.com/2Udb1mmumz

Behavior Interactive stated today that the 2v8 mode first run will now end on Thursday, August 15, at 8 am PT / 11 am ET via a fresh post on X/Twitter. More intriguingly, Behaviour Interactive revealed that, despite 2v8’s lengthy wait times, it accounted for over 40% of all matches played in Dead by Daylight since its launch late last month. They also revealed that the reason for extending the 2v8 trial run was the community’s strong demand.

Behavior Interactive stated in the article, “We have been blown away by your reaction to 2v8 these last two weeks, and we have heard your demand loud and clear for the mode to be extended beyond its intended end date.”

There has not been an ETA on when or if Dead by Daylight’s 2v8 mode would become permanent, despite years of requests from fans. But Behaviour Interactive stated in another post that the 2v8 mode was “only the initial version,” and that the mode will be improved upon before becoming a permanent feature of Dead by Daylight. The development teams specifically want to tackle issues with matching in 2v8 and variation in Killers, in addition to providing “a more exciting Survivor experience.”

For those who do not know, Dead by Daylight’s 2v8 option raises the number of players from 1 killer and 4 survivors to 2 killers and 8 survivors. A few modifications have been made to the fundamental Dead by Daylight gameplay experience in 2v8 due to the increase in player count. These consist of a bigger map and the elimination of perks and hooks.

“After almost five years, Dead by Daylight has matured into a fantastic slasher film simulator and the best asymmetrical multiplayer game around,” Gamexta noted in our review, giving the game a 9/10.
