Some claim that Light of Motiram, which Tencent intends to release on the PS5, is a “rip-off” of Sony’s Horizon games.

Tencent has revealed intentions to offer Light of Motiram, its contentious open-world survival crafting game, on the PS5, mobile devices, and PC. Tencent revealed the PS5 version on PlayStation’s Chinese social media profiles on Weibo and Bilibili, according to Gematsu.

The free-to-play survival game Light of Motiram, developed by Shanghai-based Tencent subsidiary Polaris Quest, is “where nature meets machine.” According to screenshots and gameplay videos, the visual aesthetic is strikingly similar to Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West with its post-apocalyptic environment and mechanical creatures. Gamexta has contacted Sony and Tencent for comment.

Tencent released a seven-minute video today showcasing further gameplay in Light of Motiram. We see gameplay that appears to be heavily influenced by games like Capcom’s Monster Hunter and Pocketpair’s Palworld, which was accused of “ripping off” Pokémon, following an opening that brings back thoughts of Destiny’s iconic Ghost “wake up Guardian” opener.

Players can make friends and raise different “mechanicals” in Light of Motiram, either by themselves or with others. You must establish a base camp and use domesticated animals as mounts to assist with farming, crafting, and logging. Mechanicals can be used for resource collecting, fighting, and as ground, air, and aquatic mounts.

Light of Motiram boasts hundreds of realistic survival gaming mechanisms, according to Tencent. The firm stated that “if you are caught wearing metal during a storm, lightning may strike (more than a few times), trees must be carefully felled to prevent a quick death, and a shelter must be ventilated before starting a fire to prevent choking.” “These realistic elements can be exploited to the benefit of players; for instance, lightning damage can electrocute fish, making fishing considerably simpler and quicker.”

Although there is not any multiplayer survival gameplay like this in the Horizon games, the characters, creatures, and setting of Light of Motiram unquestionably have a similar appearance and feel. Naturally, Guerrilla is developing a multiplayer, live-service Horizon game; Light of Motiram might be a little too close to the mark, but we will not know until it is revealed.
