An Initial Look at Cecil’s Invincible VS Gameplay

Cecil is the seventh playable character in Invincible VS.

Intelligence agent Cecil Stedman was unveiled in a gameplay video below by Quarter Up, the company behind the 3v3 tag combat game based on Robert Kirkman’s Invincible. To learn more about Cecil’s operation and the Invincible VS story mode.

Following Cecil’s statement, we now know that eight playable characters in Invincible VS have voices provided by the actors who portrayed those characters in the wildly successful animated series on Prime Video. They are Atom Eve, Bulletproof, Thula, Rex Splode, Battle Beast, Omni-Man, Mark Grayson (Invincible), and now Cecil.

The official Cecil blurb is as follows:

One of the most requested playable characters, Cecil is a fan favorite from the Invincible comic books and television series. In Invincible VS, Cecil enters the battle with specialized weaponry such plasma pistols, projectile launchers, and grenades to keep opponents at bay. He is most frequently heard speaking in Mark’s earpiece. He can play cat and mouse with enemies thanks to his tactical combat and ranged gaming style. Do you want more? Cecil is a powerful force on the battlefield having access to The Hammer, a huge orbiting laser. He can also call out an endless supply of Reanimen as backup.

The Invincible VS Story Mode, a stand-alone story set in the Invincible universe, was further discussed by Quarter Up. Together with Kirkman, Invincible VS story director Mike Rogers, and co-executive producer and writer Helen Leigh wrote it for the Invincible TV series. In the Story Mode, which “plays like a special extended episode of the show,” you can anticipate more than 25 minutes of custom animation with all of the previously revealed playable characters.

It’s interesting to note that a new character who hasn’t yet made an appearance anywhere in the Invincible Universe is hinted at in the Story Mode. Although they wouldn’t reveal who, Quarter Up acknowledged Cecil is a key character in the narrative.

According to Kirkman, “Invincible has always been as much about gripping narratives as it is about gory beatdowns and fights you can’t take your eyes off of.”

“I thought we needed to incorporate essential characters into the game and recreate the spirit of the comic and TV show. We hope that Story Mode will allow viewers to experience the universe in a completely different way while yet feeling as though they are back in the show.

In 2026, Invincible VS will be available on PC, Xbox Series X and S, and PlayStation 5. For a forthcoming Invincible VS Closed Alpha later this year, players can sign up here.
