Age of Mythology: Retold, the Age of Empire spin-off, is the main title of the first wave of titles that Microsoft has stated will be available on Xbox Game Pass starting in September 2024. In this real-time strategy game, players can defeat several monsters in addition to other countries by fusing their love for the Age of Empire with global myths. When it launches on September 4th, it goes straight to Game Pass. On September 5, Expeditions: A MudRunner Game will take center stage. Another action-packed installment in the venerable series, Expeditions combines the gameplay of exploring mountains and valleys…
One way to think of Avowed is as Obsidian Entertainment’s Skyrim substitute, ever since the game’s first-person viewpoint was made clear in its cinematic teaser. Obsidian has made an effort to remove itself from this viewpoint, in part because Avowed isn’t a massive, open-world game but rather a more intimate role-playing game composed of connected zones. The Skyrim analogy does, however, make some sense; Obsidian produced its Fallout analog in 2019 with The Outer Worlds, demonstrating in Fallout: New Vegas that it could emulate Bethesda titles better than Bethesda themselves. Eyes have naturally turned to Avowed, as it may be…
Reflecting on the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, his plans, and his decision to cancel DLC a year later, Larian
Baldur’s Gate 3 was hardly a blip on my radar in July of 2023. One month later, when it was published, it quickly rose to the top of my all-time favorite games. The game is currently commemorating one year of its launch. In anticipation of the game’s upcoming seventh major patch, which will allow for official modding support and new endings, developer Larian Studios has created a brand-new YouTube channel to offer behind-the-scenes glimpses at the game and its creators. Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game worth celebrating because of its critical acclaim, multiple accolades, and commercial success, but its…
The majority of the employees at Ouka Studios, the maker of Visions of Mana, have been let go by the Chinese video game corporation NetEase, which intends to close it down completely. Bloomberg was informed by anonymous individuals with knowledge of the situation that the studio, which opened its doors in 2020, will be sustained by the few members who remain until its last games are released. Launched just yesterday, August 29, 2024, Visions of Mana received positive reviews from critics. (Gamexta gave their assessment of Visions of Mana an 8 out of 10.) Major Chinese corporations such as NetEase…
Gameplay Mockup Using Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, and Other Assets Is Revealed in Early Deadlock Footage
Online, an early test video appears to be of Valve’s recently revealed multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) shooter, Deadlock. The video was posted by @gabefollower, an X/Twitter user, content maker, and leaker. Yoshi, a Valve developer, is credited with creating the clip. With its smooth concrete floors, triangular pine trees, and texture-free buildings, it is a stripped-down version of the Deadlock we know today. This early version also makes use of assets from a few other Valve games, as Gabe Follower notes. The minion role, for instance, is filled by Half-Life Antlions. Other game assets include those from Left 4…
A brand-new Tetris collection called Tetris Forever has been unveiled in honor of the game’s 40th anniversary. It is a compilation of Tetris games from across history that will be available on the Nintendo Switch later this year. Tetris Forever, dubbed an “interactive museum” and unveiled at August’s Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, is an assortment of Tetris games, such as the 1988 Famicom version of Tetris, Super Bombliss, Super Tetris 2 + Bombliss, Tetris Battle Gaiden, and Super Tetris 3. Tetris Time Warp, a brand-new game that switches between gameplay motifs from the many eras of the franchise, is arguably…
We have had a lot of fun spinning lightsabers and using dazzling Force powers in our Star Wars video games, but Star Wars Outlaws swaggers into the cantina creeps into a booth with its holster clip undone, and declares that those are no match for having a nice blaster by your side. This open-world action game, or rather, open-worlds, has a degree of gunfights and unfulfilled promises appropriate for the myth that is Chewbacca’s closest friend. But in both positive and negative aspects, Star Wars Outlaws is fundamentally a Han Solo-like experience; it has a strong feeling of adventure and…
It is a well-known cliché that anytime a new action game is unveiled and it excites people, people automatically think it is going to be similar to Souls. Earlier this year, it occurred with Armored Core 6 as well as Stellar Blade. Currently, Black Myth: Wukong is the victim. If you Google the game, you will come across a ton of articles, Reddit discussions, and forum posts speculating about whether or not Black Myth: Wukong is a Soulslike, along with follow-ups explaining that, well, no, it is not. I would want to officially state that Wukong is not a Soulslike,…
The popular dress-up role-playing game series Nikki, created by Infold Games, the international arm of China’s Papergames, has amassed over 100 million players. A dress-up-focused action game might seem more appropriate for casual gamers. But the most recent game in the series, Infinity Nikki, which will be available for PC, PlayStation5, and mobile devices, is an open-world title with a strong emphasis on platforming action. Both newbies and followers of the series were taken aback by the first trailer, which showed the main character Nikki exploring a large open environment while wearing a variety of clothes. Gamexta released our impressions…
Seven years after the release of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp on mobile devices, Nintendo has revealed plans to close the game. 2017 saw the debut of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, a mobile-only edition of Nintendo’s hugely successful farming and living simulation game. Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp received an 8 out of 10 rating from Gamexta. We declared: “There are many reasons to go camping with Pocket Camp, a true-to-series Animal Crossing adaption.” One week after its seventh birthday, on November 29, 2024, the game closes. We have been privileged to witness everyone’s beautiful, varied campsites expand and thrive for about…
