Resident Evil 3: Original Gets a GOG PC Release Date

On September 25, 2024, CD Projekt Red-owned GOG will release the first Resident Evil 3. According to a message on the platform by publishers Capcom and GOG, the release of Resident Evil 2 takes place shortly after the first game on the platform, just like the two titles did when they were first released.

The statement stated, “With the original Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3 being standout titles that have captured gamers worldwide, Capcom’s Resident Evil series has defined and altered the survival horror genre.” It is time to finish the trilogy now.

“As with Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2, we ensured that GOG’s rendition of the third installment in the series is optimal. You can anticipate several enhancements to your quality of life, compatibility with contemporary systems, complete support for contemporary controllers, and much more.”

What Resident Evil 3 offers on GOG is as follows:

  • Complete compatibility with the latest controllers, including the Logitech F series, Microsoft Xbox One, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, Sony DualSense, and many more, with the best button mapping independent of the hardware and in wireless mode.
  • complete interoperability with Windows 11 and 10.
  • The game was translated into six different languages: English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese.
  • Included was Mercenaries Mode.
  • enhanced game renderer for DirectX.
  • Additional rendering options include integer scaling, gamma correction, windowed mode, vertical synchronization control, and more.
  • improved restart and initialization of the graphics engine.
  • enhanced subtitles for videos.
  • enhanced dialog for options.
  • Issue-less task switching.
  • enhanced visibility of the mouse pointer.

In June, GOG said that all three of the original Resident Evil titles would be released, with Resident Evil 3’s release capping the series. It is not nearly as difficult to play the first three Resident Evil games on PC, which were long unavailable, so it is unlikely that any big announcements on additional releases will be made. However, you can still play the original Resident Evil 4 and later titles on PC.

Aside from that, Capcom has been hard at work recreating these titles, starting with Resident Evil 2 and going on to include Resident Evil 3 and the beloved Resident Evil 4. Even though the first Resident Evil was remade in 2002, it has not been updated in the same manner as the other games for almost 20 years. Along with a ninth major game, Capcom is working on remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica.
