It will be built from the ground up to feature new content and improved visuals.
Hopoo Games co-founder Duncan Drummond states in a statement, “Risk of Rain Returns takes everything we learned making Risk of Rain 2 and applies it to the original we created back in our dorm room.” Looking back on our early work was important to us as we planned our future as developers. Risk of Rain Returns is a small way to express our gratitude to this amazing community. We hope that everyone shares our enthusiasm for the future.
The developers of Risk of Rain Returns will implement features and lessons learned from Risk of Rain 2 into the updated codebase. The game will likewise have patched-up multiplayer, as well as new Survivors, Survivor capacities, things, and beasts. Chris Christodoulou gets back to score the game’s soundtrack too.
Last month, Gearbox completed its acquisition of the Risk of Rain series. Risk of Rain was first released by Chucklefish, and Gearbox followed in 2020 with Risk of Rain 2.
We wrote, “What’s here now is polished, fun, and immensely replayable, and what’s on the horizon leads me to believe I’ll be playing Risk of Rain 2 for a very long time to come” in our Risk of Rain 2 review for IGN.
