More than ten years after its release, Steam is giving Castle Crashers DLC.

More than ten years after its introduction on Steam, the critically acclaimed 2D side-scrolling hack-and-slash game Castle Crashers from the Xbox 360 era is receiving DLC.

During a YouTube livestream earlier today, Castle Crasher’s forthcoming DLC, Painter Boss Paradise, was revealed by developer The Behemoth. Along with an artistic makeover for its ensemble cast and weaponry, the DLC will allow players to customize their characters via the Steam Workshop. Paint Junior, a new playable character in Paint Boss Paradise, is described by the developers as having the ability to “vanquish foes with the mere strength of their imagination.” Painter Boss Paradise’s announcement lacked a release date because the livestream is called “The Behemoth Roadmap,” but The Behemoth promises to provide those specifics later.

Not everything shown today by The Behemoth was related to the Castle Crashers DLC. The Behemoth also mentioned a ton of updates for their other previous release games, along with a teaser for Painter Boss Paradise’s release date that has not been revealed yet:

Battleblock Theater is receiving a console release for the Xbox Series X/S in addition to a quality-of-life update on Steam that addresses graphics, frame rates, and bug improvements.
A quality-of-life update is also being provided to Pit People.
The PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 will get Alien Hominid HD and Alien Hominid Invasion.
We are prototyping our next game in addition to updating our complete library of games! Oh my goodness, ah. Yes, at this point, that is all we have to say.

Behemoth’s flurry of announcements culminated with a hint that the company is prototyping its next title. It is unclear if the next game is going to be the eagerly anticipated Castle Crasher 2 or something altogether else. Fans of The Behemoth, however, have a ton more games to look forward to shortly.

“Castle Crashers takes the greatest parts of conventional side-scrolling beat-em-ups and adds tons of flair,” we stated in our 9/10 review of the game. This is a funny place with some really pleasant surprises that will make most people smile. Of course, having a great time is the most crucial factor, especially when playing with friends.
