Exclusive Xbox Console Replaced and Rescheduled for 2025

A second delay has been announced for Replaced, an Xbox console-exclusive cyberpunk sidescroller. It was originally scheduled for release in 2022, but it is now anticipated in 2025.

In a post on Twitter/X, developer Sad Cat Studios kept it short and sweet: “Our initial release date was optimistic, and we apologize for that. Developing Replaced is quite a unique challenge, and we’re proud to be creating something that special.

“We need more time to ensure we meet the high standards we’ve set for ourselves and to meet the expectations of our fans.”

Sad Cat has revealed that “something amazing” will be arriving later this week and that the game will be playable at Gamescom in the interim.

Replaced was initially revealed as a 2.5D cyberpunk pixelated side-scroller by Coatsink during E3 2021. In this dark cyberpunk universe with action-packed gameplay and stunning pixel visuals, players take control of an AI imprisoned in a human body and explore the environment.

Replaced was originally scheduled to launch on PC and Xbox Game Pass in 2022. The “extremely high bar of community’s expectations” and the team’s belief that “we can not afford to produce a sub-par game” later caused it to be pushed out of 2022 and then into 2024. During Gamexta Live earlier this year, we were able to see Replaced, and we were pleased with the way it was going.
