Several games include large stakes, international military activities, and the balance of power in the world. However, if we swap out their military armor and automatic weapons for flying brooms and pointed hats, we are entering the realm of “things you do not see daily.” The inventive setting of Tactical Breach Wizards complements its sharp and humorous script nicely. Its quips tickled my funny bone more than the actual tactics in its main campaign did, but the little encounters kept up a fast-paced, captivating tempo that quickly made hours of my time disappear beneath a magic handkerchief. All things considered,…

Black Myth: Wukong has left me feeling both incredibly impressed and incredibly frustrated at the same time. I have never been this way over a game. Without a question, this is one of the most amazing and ambitious action games I have ever played. To name a few of its many virtues, it is breathtakingly beautiful, has excellent fighting, is extremely difficult yet always rewarding to conquer, and has a scenario that is both refreshingly new and deeply rooted in rich Chinese culture. Even with all of that, it frequently seems to be barely hanging on. Even with my top-of-the-line…

Although Dustborn’s almost parodically melodramatic characters and peculiar blend of genres make for an eye-rolling first impression, there is a lot more to it than I initially realized as my group of mutant misfits traveled across America hitting people with an upgraded baseball bat and having emotional conversations. Dustborn is tackling big ideas, and it is doing it with science-fiction squids, biker queens with shattered hearts, and robots wearing bunny hats. This hybrid of rhythm games, comic books, and Telltale-inspired narrative experiences is like a feast of action, story, and genres, and it works better than it should. You take…

A rated RTS match has a build-up that is unlike anything else I have experienced in a game, and Stormgate even has it in Early Access. I recognize my name. I notice the name of my opponent. I inhaled deeply, feeling the beat of my own heart. Then I see a brightly colored command center surrounded by a motley crew of personnel, and it is just me and some unknown stranger vying for fame or destruction. Despite having a smaller budget than its Blizzard-produced predecessors, Stormgate is subtly—and sometimes not so subtly—advancing the base craft formula in terms of design.…
