With the official acquisition of Player First Games, Warner Bros. Games now has a MultiVersus developer on its roster.

Warner Bros. announced that co-founders Tony Huynh and Chris White will continue to oversee the company, which has spearheaded production of the well-liked brawler reminiscent of Smash Bros., in an official statement issued to Gamexta. May marked the formal introduction of Multiversus, which had been available in early access and open beta during 2022 and 2023.

“Our team is pleased to join the Warner Bros. Games family, and we feel that this will be wonderful for MultiVersus overall,” Huynh said in a release. We are trying to give gamers the best possible MultiVersus gaming experience, and having our development team work closely with the publisher is the best way to do so.

The news was made before to MultiVersus Season 2’s launch, which is scheduled to begin streaming tomorrow. The upcoming season will include Beetlejuice, Samurai Jack, and Ranked Mode. They join many other Warner Bros. characters, such as the Joker, Agent Smith, and others.

Since its release, MultiVersus has received largely positive reviews. Our review said this: “MultiVersus is a loud and enjoyable competitive platform fighter that rewards players for understanding the advantages and disadvantages of its diverse roster of characters and cooperating.” It lacks the pick-up-and-play element of a game like Smash Bros. due to its emphasis on online 2v2, but it also does a good job of differentiating itself from other games in the category. Although MultiVersus’s current small cast of characters and stages may take some time to expand to reach its full potential, its fundamentals are already firmly established.”

“We have worked with Player First Games over several years to design and launch MultiVersus, and we are extremely delighted to welcome this amazing team to Warner Bros. Games,” said David Haddad, president of Warner Bros. Games, in a statement. Player First Games’ talented and imaginative staff expands our vast development possibilities.”

Avalanche Software, TT Games, NetherRealm Studios, and Monolith Productions are the other studios in the lineup that Player First Games has joined. Along with the discontinuation of its mobile game Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, Warner Bros. Games recently announced layoffs and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has also had difficulties since its release. Warner Bros. Games, however, has said that it will keep putting more of an emphasis on live service games, such as MultiVersus.
