The latest update that finally adds fishing to the game was inspired by fan art of No Man’s Sky.

Fishing has finally been included in No Man’s Sky in its upcoming major update, following a fan artwork that stopped game developer Hello Games in its tracks. The long-awaited addition of fishing to the space simulation, Hello Games’ Aquarius upgrade, was launched today, September 4, in response to the release of No Man’s Sky’s Worlds Part 1 update and its new water technology.

The fan painting below, which depicts the player’s avatar fishing while perched on their spaceship, served as the inspiration for this fishing function. It was posted on Reddit under the topic “I am a simple man with a simple dream,” by user catador_de_potos. Hello Games CEO Sean Murray stated, “A lot of people appreciated the new water technology in the Worlds update. Tons of gamers were recording videos of themselves just chilling at the water’s edge.”

We were particularly taken aback by a fan painting depicting a player idly fishing from the wing of their boat. We ultimately added fishing to No Man’s Sky in our upcoming update, Aquarius, which was inspired by that.

According to Murray, the Aquarius update gives No Man’s Sky access to “a large assortment of fish, from common minnows to wild alien catches, each with their habitat and catching conditions.”You can search the depths for secret messages in a bottle or bait your line to draw in the rarest of fish. There are prizes for new fishing gear, fishing logs to fill up, and trophies to win. Murray hinted that there is even a special fishing adventure when players go in search of “the largest catch of the day.”

With the help of new gear, you may fish from your fishing platform in deep water. It is possible to bait and trap uncommon catches with new fishing pots. With fresh recipe combos to try, you can prepare the catch of the day. Murray continued, “Building a small base on the ideal shoreline so I can cast my rod whenever the whim takes me is my favorite thing.”

No Man’s Sky was first released in 2016 for the PC and PlayStation 4, and then it was later released for Xbox One (2018), PlayStation 5 (2018), and Xbox Series X and S (2020). In 2022, a Nintendo Switch version was released. Hello Games has released numerous significant updates throughout the years, the most recent of which was the previously stated Worlds Part 1. According to Murray, Worlds produced the highest player count for No Man’s Sky in more than five years.

Indeed, Hello Games is quite busy right now working on Light No Fire, their upcoming game, in addition to patches for No Man’s Sky. Situated on a fantastical planet equivalent to Earth, it revolves around exploration, building, adventure, and survival in unison.
