Seven years after the release of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp on mobile devices, Nintendo has revealed plans to close the game.

2017 saw the debut of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, a mobile-only edition of Nintendo’s hugely successful farming and living simulation game. Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp received an 8 out of 10 rating from Gamexta. We declared: “There are many reasons to go camping with Pocket Camp, a true-to-series Animal Crossing adaption.”

One week after its seventh birthday, on November 29, 2024, the game closes. We have been privileged to witness everyone’s beautiful, varied campsites expand and thrive for about seven years since service started on November 21, 2017, Nintendo stated in a statement.

“To all of the numerous users who have enjoyed Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, we sincerely thank you.”

Nintendo has cautioned that Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp will not be playable after the online subscription expires. Still, there is a bright side. According to Nintendo, the app will have a premium version that users can transfer their saved data to. According to Nintendo, the introduction of this offline version will coincide with Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp’s end of service.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp’s gameplay and controls will be carried over to the premium edition. Nintendo stated that this app will enable the user to access the built-in functionality with a single purchase. No subscription services or in-app purchases (like Pocket Camp Club) will be available.

It is important to note that certain features—like Market Boxes, gifts, and visiting other players’ campsites—will not be accessible as this app will not require a constant internet connection. In a similar vein, Leaf Tickets will not work and cannot be transferred to the new app. October is when you may expect the release date and price.

Nintendo’s attempts to create mobile games, such as Super Mario Run, Mario Kart Tour, and Pikmin Bloom, have yielded varying outcomes. It was reported in 2020 that Nintendo was pulling out of the mobile game sector. That apparent choice was made amid Animal Crossing: New Horizons, a Switch exclusive, exploding in popularity due to the pandemic. Nonetheless, there are already some popular Pokémon smartphone games, like Pokémon Go, and more are being developed.

With the closure of Pocket Camp and New Horizons appearing to be a thing of the past at Nintendo, fans of Animal Crossing are already curious about what will happen to the franchise. Is a brand-new Animal Crossing for the Switch 2 currently under development? It seems inevitable, considering how well-liked New Horizons is.
