Stalker 2 Will Now Release in November 2024 After Another Delay

Another delay has been announced for Stalker 2, this time to November 20, 2024.

Following years of development and several delays, the Ukrainian developer GSC Game World declared in January that September 5, 2024, would be the official release date. This date will no longer be met.

Yevhen Grygorovych, the director of the game, said in a statement that the extra two months will allow the team to address any bugs or “unexpected anomalies.”

The entire statement is as follows:

“We appreciate your patience, even though we understand that you may be weary of waiting. We will have more time to address “unexpected abnormalities” (or just “bugs,” as you want) over these two extra months. Your continued understanding and support mean the world to us, and we will always be grateful for it. We can not wait for the game to be released and played so you can experience it for yourself, just like you can.”

After a lukewarm reception to its first public presentation last year, GSC Game World has been candid about the difficulties the studio has had bringing the post-apocalyptic PC and Xbox Series X and S shooter up to par.

GSC Game World addressed the criticism of Stalker 2’s most recent gameplay footage, which some had labeled as a “downgrade,” at Gamescom 2023. At the time, Stalker 2’s striking 2021 teaser (below) implied a certain visual quality and level of polish, which GSC Game World told Gamexta it was still aiming for. This is despite the appalling conditions that the staff endured throughout the conflict with Russia.

One may say that the build for Gamescom 2023 was not perfect. According to Gamexta hands-on preview, Stalker 2 still falls into the “euro jank” category, which is a word used to describe overly ambitious and technically unsound Eastern European games, even with its Unreal Engine 5 foundation and strong Microsoft support (15 minutes).

The AI in this sequel struggles to remain intelligent, the human faces resemble haunting waxworks, the animations are choppy, and inventory management is tedious. However, you get a Soviet bloc universe that feels real and rich in possibilities in return. Despite being brief, this demo included several side objectives, entertaining flanking routes, and multiple angles for stealth or action approaches in its limited regions.

On August 12, 2024, GSC Game World announced that it will launch a Stalker 2 developer deep dive in association with Xbox. The developer promised that a ton of new material, including gameplay, cutscenes, and a world overview, will be shown in this. A complete video breakdown of one of the story quests will be made available to fans.
