PC fans, there is not much longer to wait: Square Enix has formally revealed that Final Fantasy 16 will launch on PCs on September 17, 2024.
The PC version will retail for $49.99 and will be released ahead of tomorrow’s Gamescom Opening Night Live presentation, the publisher announced. Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide, the two DLC additions for Final Fantasy 16, are both arriving concurrently on PC, but you will have to pay extra to play them.

In 2023, Final Fantasy 16 was only available on the PlayStation 5. Many were surprised to learn in September of last year that Square Enix was working on a PC port of Final Fantasy 16, given the game’s producer, Naoki Yoshida, had previously ruled out the game’s arrival on PCs and advised fans to get a PS5 if they wanted to play it. In March, Yoshida stated in an interview with Game Informer that the PC version of Final Fantasy 16 was nearing the “final phases of optimization” and that the game would demand a “quite high” system configuration.
Final Fantasy 16 is a departure from what fans may expect from a Final Fantasy game. Still, its excellent story, characters, and world-building are right up there with the best the series has to offer. The innovative Active Time Lore feature should set a new standard for how lengthy, story-heavy games keep players invested in its world, according to a Gamexta review of the game.
