Bungie says that a new “multi-year journey” will be revealed soon, so Destiny will continue.

Following widespread studio layoffs last week, Bungie has come in to emphasize that work on Destiny will continue with another “multi-year adventure,” asking fans to be patient while they do so.

In recent remarks on X/Twitter, Bungie admitted that the studio’s future is becoming less assured as a result of the recent layoffs. Bungie promises to continue being open and communicative despite this since it is dedicated to the Destiny universe.

Bungie stated, “We will be chatting with you all about Destiny’s future and plans for our next multi-year journey soon.” “We will notify everyone as soon as we plant a flag for the date.”

It is unclear at this time how or when Bungie plans to introduce Destiny’s next phase. With the release of Destiny 2’s The Final Shape expansion this past June, the game’s first major plot, The Light and Darkness Saga, came to an end. The first Destiny was released in 2014. Even if a lot of people thought it was an appropriate end to a ten-year story (we rated it a 9/10), there was still a big question: Where do we go from here?

When the Sony-owned studio revealed it would lay off 220 employees in late July, uncertainty increased. 17% of the studio was laid off as a result of the change, and in the upcoming months, 155 more employees from Bungie are expected to join Sony Interactive Entertainment. The developer is left with about 850 workers.

Studio chief Pete Parsons issued a statement saying, “I recognize all of this is terrible news, especially considering the success we have witnessed with The Final Shape.” “However, after pursuing every alternative kind of mitigation, and navigating the more general economic realities over the past year, it has become imperative that we refocus our studio and our business with more realistic aims and viable financials.”

Following Bungie’s massive layoffs, a Bloomberg article surfaced announcing that the firm would instead concentrate on smaller, maybe free updates for Destiny 2 rather than major expansions. Ten current and former Bungie workers provided information for the study, which also revealed that the studio had shelved the Destiny spinoff project called Payback just months prior and had no plans for Destiny 3. Its Marathon restoration project is reportedly still in the planning stages.

The Destiny franchise’s future is unknown as Bungie gets ready to reveal its intentions. You can read more about the industry’s response to the layoffs from last week here.
