Developer Striking Distance Studios has revealed [REDACTED], a roguelike dungeon crawler that takes place in Black Iron Prison in The Callisto Protocol. That is, in fact, its true name.

Previously known as Project Birdseye, [REDACTED] was completely disclosed along with a release date of October 31, 2024, during the Xbox stream at Gamescom 2024. It promises endless replayability, challenges for fast running, progression through death, strategic build metal, and strong upgrades.

The official synopsis states, “[REDACTED] takes you deep into Black Iron Prison, a high-tech correctional prison on Jupiter’s cold moon, Callisto.” “Security systems are indiscriminate, inmates are infected and evolving, and other survivors are attempting to flee by any means necessary.

“You will have an array of weapons, suits, skills, experiments, and more to assist you get out of Black Iron Prison alive, even if you are merely a menial security guard with one mission to complete: make it to the last escape pod alive.”

A few of the difficulties that players may encounter are revealed in Striking Distance, such as competing prisoners for the only escape mod and the player’s own body from an earlier run. Even though it comes loaded with everything the player possessed when they died, this can be sought out for further benefits.

The Callisto Protocol is a survival horror game directed by Glen Schofield, the man behind the popular sci-fi horror series Dead Space, and it takes place in the same prison. Even though Striking Distance had to eliminate a lot of content, he departed the studio in September 2023 and has since stated that the franchise should have a second game.

The Callisto Protocol is a satisfyingly gruesome spiritual sequel to the Dead Space series, but in the end, it is more of a striking modern mimic than a terrifying new mutation, according to Gamexta, which gave it a 7/10 rating.
