A world premiere teaser trailer for Arc System Works‘ new Guilty Gear anime, Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers, was revealed during the Anime Expo. The show is scheduled to air sometime in 2019.
SANZIGEN is animating the 3D computer-generated anime version of the fighting game Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Riders. Although the teaser revealed very nothing in terms of plot, the trailer does feature the main characters of the venerable combat game, Sin Kiske and Sol Badguy. The pair faces up against an enigmatic new adversary dubbed Unika in the teaser, who has a vengeance against Gears. The style of the trailer is reminiscent of the cutscenes in the game.
One of the most visually striking anime fighters ever made makes Guilty Gear stand out above other fighting game franchises. As a result, Guilty Gear is known for having one of the most difficult plotlines to follow. One example of this is the fact that Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2, the story mode for Strive’s predecessor, is practically an hour-long anime in and of itself. Here is a summary of Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Riders for those who are curious about its place in the series’ illustrious history:
According to the official description, “a new energy source known as magic fuels the modern period after the decline of the once robust domains of science and technology.” “Humanity develops Gears, biological weapons that are prohibited. At some point, those Gears rebel against humanity. Despite coming out on top in the battle for existence known as the Crusades, humanity suffered such severe losses that their psychological scars do not completely heal even after decades have passed.
“Sin Kiske, the human-Gear hybrid, is on his way to his mother Dizzy’s and father Ky’s wedding. The marriage of a human and a Gear breaks the greatest taboo. Such a ceremony took several years to materialize, even in an era of world peace. The wedding ceremony is greeted with blessings despite the wide range of difficult emotions that surround it. Then all of a sudden, a mystery girl shows up. The mystery girl who hates Gears and the destined child who will inherit Gear’s blood. The earth would tremble upon their encounter.”
“Guilty Gear Strive establishes a new bar for anime-like fighting games with its visuals, superb net code, and versatile fighting system that encourages and rewards creativity,” we wrote in our review, awarding the game a 9/10.
