Distinct Possibility Studio, a new developer founded by gaming veterans, including former Sony Online Entertainment head John Smedley, has revealed its debut title: Reaper Actual. Currently in development for PC, this large-scale, persistent online first-person shooter is built in Unreal Engine 5 and promises an ambitious blend of PvPvE gameplay.

Set on the fictional island of Marova—which is said to be four times the size of Call of Duty: Warzone’s largest map—Reaper Actual drops players into the role of Reapers, mercenaries who take contracts from various factions. Servers will support up to 200 players simultaneously, allowing for the formation of Outfits (clan-like groups), base ownership, vehicular combat, and high-stakes raids.

In addition to player conflict, the game world is shaped by AI factions waging war with each other, giving players the choice to intervene or exploit the chaos. With its MMOFPS-style mechanics and evolving world, Reaper Actual is shaping up to be a bold new entry in the competitive shooter space.

“Victors and defeats reshape the island’s control between PvP fights and NPC factions in real-time,” says Distinct Possibility, describing Reaper Actual’s persistent online island. To create the best equipment, players will have access to a progression and crafting system that remains in the environment. “We are heading toward the next level of persistent FPS combat,” stated Matt Higby, the studio’s chief creative officer.

Gamers desire a universe that they can inhabit and expand upon. In Reaper Actual, having a strong base is just the beginning. The environment turns into a whirlpool of opportunities for players as faction tasks and PvP warfare merge. When you combine that with a comprehensive crafting system, Reapers will increase each time you play.

Cerberus, an AI in the vein of the Left 4 Dead Director, will dynamically throw players against one another by assigning conflicting goals to various Outfits.

In addition to larger-scale Planetside 2-style scenarios, core player experiences are being created around three to four player groupings. Cerberus, their AI in the vein of the Left 4 Dead Director, will dynamically throw players against one another by assigning conflicting goals to various Outfits.

The Steam and Epic Games Store versions of Reaper Actual will not have any web3 components, but players who want to participate can opt in to user-generated content by crafting guns and gear, with the option to rent and modify servers. Lastly, they are expanding the in-game economy outside of the game with opt-in web3 elements. The official Reaper Actual website is where you can sign up to take part in player testing.
