GOG Declares Fallout: London to be the “Fastest Redeemed” Game Ever

Fallout: London, the massive Fallout 4 mod that brings the post-apocalyptic role-playing game overseas, was released about two weeks ago. According to digital distribution store GOG.com, the expansion-sized update has become the “fastest redeemed game of all time” on its platform.

Fallout: London was redeemed “more than 500,000 times” in the first 24 hours, according to a press statement released by GOG on Friday. This achievement made it the fastest-downloading game ever for the storefront alone.

“A press release from GOG stated that the initial release of Fallout: London proved to be an enormous success – and a prime illustration of how labor of love and imagination can bring in a variety of new, interesting ways to enjoy a game.”

In a BBC interview, the mod’s creators revealed that they intend to formally launch their game production firm because of the mod’s enormous success. Even though Fallout: London is a free mod, “free does not pay the bills,” as Team Folon’s Dean Carter stated in the interview. The developers appear to be getting ready to turn Team Folon into a full-fledged studio with the money they have been receiving in donations.

“We have channeled that into team Folon, which is where we are going to be relocating to, and we should hopefully start our independent gaming firm after that,” he stated.

Fallout: London was first revealed as a DLC-sized update for the 2015 action role-playing game Fallout 4 in June 2021. Players explore a radioactive, post-apocalyptic London in this game, which is set between Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 events.

The Fallout: London development team had two more release windows planned before the mod was released. The first was scheduled for Q3 2023, however, it was postponed to avoid conflicting with Bethesda’s space RPG Starfield. The development team anticipated that the Fallout 4 next-generation update would render the mod unusable, which led to the second postponement in 2024.

Naturally, although Fallout: London has been a huge hit, GOG noted some growing pains with the mod. It said specifically that most of the problems stemmed from how difficult it was for people to install the mod.

Other problems/criticisms of Fallout: London include the mod’s incompatibility with the Fallout 4 version available on the Epic Games Store, which GOG stated before release was because of EGS’s lack of update rollback support. Gamexta has a guide that can assist you in correctly installing Fallout: London if you own Fallout 4 on Steam and want to play it.
